Icelandair (FI) Cheapest Flight Deals

Icelandair, known as Iceland's leading airline, is headquartered in Reykjavík and flies to about 40 destinations in Europe and North America. Iceland's geographical position gives Icelandair an advantage on transatlantic flights, with its hub located mid-way between the US and Europe.

Icelandair was founded in 1937, under the name Flugfélag Akureyrar in Akureyri. After an accident that resulted in the loss of its only aircraft, the airline relaunched in the 1940s as Flugfélag Íslands, which translates into Flight Company of Iceland, but used the name Iceland Airways internationally.

Icelandair became Iceland’s main domestic carrier in 1952. Around that same time, it officially changed its name from Flugfélag to Icelandair for international flights. In the early 1970s, Icelandair and Loftleiðir merged, keeping the name Icelandair.

Icelandair received 2011 titles of The Knowledge Company and Marketing Firm of the Year in Iceland.
