Tokyo is the capital city of Japan and the country’s largest metropolis. Flights to Tokyo from Hong Kong leave from Hong Kong International Airport, located on the island of Chek Lap Kok island. There are good transport links to the airport from the city, by train, bus or taxi.
Flights arrive at either Narita International Airport, also known as Tokyo Narita Airport or Tokyo International Airport, also known as Haneda Airport or Tokyo Haneda. Haneda is much closer to Tokyo city center, as Narita Airport is actually in the city of Narita, about 40 miles outside of Tokyo, but both airports have good transport links into the city.

There are multiple daily flights to Tokyo from Hong Kong, with Hong Kong Express offering the most direct flights. Other airlines, including Cathay Pacific, Jetstar, ANA, and Vanilla Air, also offer regular direct flights. There are other departures that require a connection, offered by Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong Airlines, Korean Air and China Airlines.

3. How long is the flight?

If you choose a direct flight from Hong Kong to Tokyo, the journey should take just under 4 and a half hours. Other options with connecting flights can take quite a bit longer with journey times upwards of 6 hours and 45 minutes, including layover time. Tokyo is one hour ahead of Hong Kong.

4. Climate changes between Hong Kong and Tokyo

Hong Kong tends to have more consistently warm weather all year round than Tokyo. While both cities experience similar temperatures in the height of the summer, Tokyo will be significantly cooler in the northern hemisphere winter.

Tokyo’s currency is the yen and it can be acquired at banks and international airports. Credit cards such as Mastercard and Visa are accepted as well.

Many travelers, including US citizens, can enter Japan without a visa for stays of up to 90 days. You will need to apply for a visa to work or study in Japan, and this should be done in advance.

There is so much to see and do in Tokyo, it can be hard to know where to start. Visit the city’s most famous shrine, the Senso-Ji Temple.
