Visit Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi is the wealthy capital of the United Arab Emirates. The modern city is built on an island a few hundred meters off the Arabian Peninsula. Though the word cosmopolitan may not come to mind when thinking of Abu Dhabi, it is a culturally diverse place in terms of food, music, and religion.

Attractions in Abu Dhabi

The most iconic landmark in Abu Dhabi is the Sheikh Zayed Mosque. It’s easily one of the largest mosques in the world, with over 82 domes over 12 hectares. The gorgeous design was influenced by Persian, Egyptian, and Indo-Islamic architecture and will absolutely amaze you.

Although only opening in late 2017, the Louvre Abu Dhabi art museum is already proving to be a popular tourist attraction. Although it’s worth a visit for the incredibly unique and innovative design, the museum showcases many wonderful exhibitions that merge Eastern and Western art.

In such a hot climate, you’ll undoubtedly want to go for a swim. Saadiyat Public Beach is one of the most desirable spots thanks to its pristine white sand. There are beach yoga classes to take and water sports to try, and many beach clubs and restaurants are around the area.

Shopping and Restaurants

Shopping - The city is home to many modern (and enormous) shopping and entertainment complexes. Some of your best options are Marina Mall, Abu Dhabi Mall, Al Wahda Mall, and the Galleria.

Dining - Although you’ll find many fine dining options at the aforementioned malls, you shouldn’t miss some of the incredible restaurants along the waterfront. You'll find Lebanese at Byblos Sur Mer, seafood at Finz Restaurant, Brazilian at Chamas, Italian at Villa Toscana, Japanese at Zuma, and Middle Eastern at Mezlai.

Smart Tip

Abu Dhabi is a little more conservative than Dubai due to its deep-rooted traditions. In order to blend in and respect the local culture, you should wear clothing that covers your shoulders and upper legs. This goes for both women and men. Be aware that in many public places, dress codes are enforced.

Flights to Abu Dhabi

The Abu Dhabi International Airport is huge and impressively designed. It’s one of the main transit hubs in the Middle East so you won’t have any trouble finding convenient flights. There are three main passenger terminals with over 30 airlines traveling to and from 60 different countries.

Taxis from the airport to the center of the city take roughly half an hour. If you want to save your money, you can catch the A1 bus.
