Free Airport WiFi for the Holidays

November 11, 2009 | Posted in: Airports, Holiday Travel | 0 comments

In case you missed the announcement, a number of airports (47 to be exact) across the country will be offering free WiFi from now until Jan. 15th. This should make things a little easier if you have to spend some quality time at the airport this holiday season waiting for connecting flights or dealing with delays.

Some of the largest airports won’t feature free WiFi, but you will be able to find it in Houston, Las Vegas, Miami, Orlando, Seattle, and many more. Check out Free WiFi in 47 Airports for the Holidays - Now thru Jan. 15 for more details, a link to the full list, and to see how you can take advantage of this little gift from the airports.

Cheap Airline Tickets? Got ‘em. New TSA Rules? Uh…

The next time you book a flight from an airline or travel agency, you’ll notice that you will be required to enter additional information about yourself.

It’s all part of the TSA’s Secure Flight Program. The agency has been rolling this out over the last year and it is now in full swing.

If you book a domestic or international flight on Continental.com or on Travelocity, for instance, you’ll now be asked to enter your exact name as it appears on your passport or driver’s license, your date of birth, your gender and, if applicable, your redress number. (The redress number is a TSA-provided number for travelers who believe they’ve erroneously hassled or denied boarding because they’ve been matched to a bad guy on a government watch list.)

Why is this being done - and how to breeze through the process? Keep reading…

Bigger Airports Usually Mean Cheaper Flights

September 24, 2009 | Posted in: Airports, Cheap Airfare Sales, Coast to Coast | 0 comments

Bigger isn’t always better, but often it pays to fly out of the largest airport near you (even if you have to drive an hour or two).

Case in point: Southern California’s LAX vs. Burbank.

I did a quick search on FareCompare’s deal finder - for cheap, cross-country flights in September - and came up with the following:

Los Angeles to NY, $199 roundtrip

Burbank to NY, $239

Both are great deals, but you clearly save more by flying out of the larger LAX. On the other hand, San Fernando Valley residents can rejoice because they still get a good deal, while avoiding the hassle of the 405. Been there!

Find cheap flights to Top Cities in Europe from your home airport at FareCompare

Dublin reigns as the cheapest landing point for European travel, but let’s make it clear from the get-go: What’s the opposite of “shoestring?” Velvet rope? Purse-string? Unless Ireland is the sole reason for your trip, everything after the airfare may cost a shoestringin’ backpacker a couple appendages and their firstborn.

Dublin, while great in its own semi-affordable right, is well-served as the gateway to the continent that surrounds it.

JetBlue was set to open their “new home” at Terminal 5 in JFK on October 1st. However, the carrier has announced that it will push it’s JFK debut back to October 22nd:

“While we are on track with all of our work from the 26 gates to the automated baggage system, this postponement will allow additional time to put the final touches on all the retail, and food and beverage spaces.” (from JetBlue)

Learn more about JetBlue’s new “state of the art” digs in Terminal 5, and catch a glimpse of how the new location could make travel a bit more convenient for you once things are up and running.

Will That Cheap Airfare Sale Take You to an Airport with a Theme Song??

Yes…some airports have theme songs.

Some pretty, uh…interesting…theme songs. But don’t take my word for it.
