It’s one thing to talk about cheap flights and airfare sales, but before you jump on what looks like a great travel deal, you should be aware of any extra costs that you might have to deal with. Taxes and fees aren’t always the only costs you have to deal with these days, as more airlines find more ways to get a few bucks out of you. Beginning in May, if you fly on US Airways or United, you’ll be faced with a $25 fee each-way if you want to check a second bag. While the move by both airlines has caused a backlash among many travelers, there’s a good chance that other major carriers will follow suit. Keep reading for a look at some other extra charges you could encounter on your next flight… |
Charging for extra luggage definitely wasn’t the brainchild of United or US Airways. Low-cost carriers in Europe have used the practice for some time, and we’re all probably used to shelling out a couple of extra bucks for bags we check curbside.
Also, the days of the free hot meal are pretty much over for domestic travelers. However, a range of airlines will feed you if you’re willing to pay. While most airlines will still give you drinks for free, Skybus will hit you up if you want a soda, a juice, or just about anything else. In fact, if you’re feeling cold, get ready to pay for a blanket.
As fuel prices continue to rise, and airlines are faced with escalating costs, we’re likely going to see more extra fees added across the board. You can still find cheap flights, but it never hurts to check out other fees you might have to pay first. After all, if you’re flying with a large group, those little additional costs can quickly add up.
