When one airline goes after a rival at that rival’s major hub, we call it a Hub-Buster airfare. Whenever this type of “tweaking” goes on between the airlines, it usually means great savings for travelers. In fact, we’ve seen Hub-Buster airfares save travelers over $1,000. Today’s Hub-Buster airfare comes from American Airlines. The DFW-based carrier is going after Northwest Airlines on a popular route into Northwest’s Minneapolis hub. Keep reading for more details on the smackdown, and see how it can save you big money on airfare. |
Right now, American Airlines is offering flights from Detroit to Minneapolis for as low as $177+ R/T for travel on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Airfare on the same route from Northwest Airlines will run you about $303+ R/T. Northwest still offers a non-stop flight, though (American Airlines’ airfares are for one-stop), but that non-stop will cost you upwards of $582+ R/T.
We’re big fans of Hub-Buster airfares here, because any time the airlines start to mix it up like this, consumers can take advantage of some really cheap flights.
